How to Slay an Ankara Dress

African Ankara Dress

Happy Saturday! Today, I’m gabbing all abut this beautiful Ankara skirt/dress that I purchased from the Ubiquitous Beauty Hair and Health Expo. Admittedly, this gorgeous piece has been in my closet for about a year with only one wear. Originally, I purchased it as a skirt, but I had no idea I could remix it as a dress. Check out my inspiration below.

From Day to Night

Ankara Dress

One of the main reasons why I’m in love with this outfit is because it effortlessly transitions from day to night. The fabric can be tied as a  flowy skirt or lovely layered dress. To achieve this look, I tied the skirt around my chest to create a tubed effect. Then, I used the remaining fabric to create a floppy flower bow. I added a bold gold belt to cinch the waist and provide a little more body definition. I opted for an edgy orange necklace from one of my favorite local boutiques, Lanell’s Jewelry Box, to bring out the pattern’s rich reddish/orange undertones.
